Rare Filly Entered For VOBIS Gold Sale

Wednesday, 19 April 2017: The filly is from the first crop of the Monsun sire Fiorente, who followed a close second to Green Moon in the 2012 Melbourne Cup with a win in the race in 2013.
Her dam is Done And Dusted, a winner of five races to 2200m by Jeune, the imported winner of the 1994 Melbourne Cup.
A winner of two G2 races in England, Jeune also won the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, G1 Underwood Stakes, G1 CF Orr Stakes and was second in the G1 BMW, G1 Ranvet Stakes, G1 LKS Mackinnon Stakes, G1 Australian Cup and G1 Futurity Stakes for the Lindsay Park stable in Australia.
Now deceased, Jeune was a noted sire for Lindsay Park, supplying over 400 winners including 28 successful in black type events,. As a broodmare sire his daughters have already produced nearly 300 winners.
The Fiorente filly is the only yearling in the VOBIS Gold catalogue out of a Jeune mare but there is one from a daughter of another imported Lindsay Park trained Melbourne Cup winner At Talaq and two others who have him as the sire of their grandams.
The yearling out of an At Talaq mare is a filly by Skilled out of Mota, a sister to stakes placed My Irish Flame and Mrs Parnell (10 wins), dam of stakes winners Baughurst and Nancy Eleanor, the dam in turn of Golden Slipper and Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Phelan Ready.
A tragic loss when he died early in his ninth season at stud when only 14, At Talaq was a world class racehorse by Roberto who won the Grand Prix de Paris, second in the Grosser Preis von Baden in Germany, third in the Italian Derby and fourth in the English Derby before he came to Australia.
Besides winning the Melbourne Cup, At Talaq also won the LKS Mackinnon Stakes and CF Orr Stakes and was second in the Caulfield Cup, Underwood Stakes and Australian Cup and third in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.
As a sire, At Talaq supplied 178 winners of 576 races with 25 stakes winners including five at G1 level and eight others G1 placed.
He is also broodmare sire of 530 winners of 1750 races and $81.7milllion.
Among the G1 winners out of At Talaq mares have been Mummify (Jeune), Black Heart Bart, Above Deck, Rewaaya and Bel Mer.
Other winners by Jeune out of At Talaq mares include Jameela (G2 winner), Autumn Jeuney (G3 wins), Jeune’s Mark (Hobart Cup) and Kia Ora Miss (10 wins).
The half-brothers and sires Murtajill (Rock Of Gibraltar) and Bradbury’s Luck (Redoute’s Choice) are from the outstanding At Talaq mare and G1 Doncaster Handicap winner Skating.
At Talaq is one of two imported Melbourne Cup winners descending in male line from Roberto, the other being Americain.
Americain also has progeny in the VOBIS Gold yearling sale, being represented by 11 second crop lots, progeny of mares by Zabeel. Fiorente has 15.
Americain, a son of one of the great Roberto sires Dynaformer, and Fiorente, a product of Desert Bloom, a mare inbred 3x3 to Danzig, performed well at top level in Europe and Australia.
Americain won11 races including the Melbourne Cup, Zipping Classic, Moonee Valley Cup and Geelong Cup in Victoria and two G2 races in France.
Americain, shuttling between Swettenham Stud in Victoria and Calumet Farm in Kentucky, has his oldest three in America. He has had winners in USA, Canada and France.
His oldest Australian progeny are current two-year-olds and only five have raced. His stock are likely to emerge in force as 3YOs as he had 155 mares in his first season and 133 in his second.
Fiorente in his first season serviced 186 mares. Named the champion Australian stayer 2013-14, his other Australian wins included the G1 Australian Cup, G2 Peter Young Stakes and G2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and a third in the G1 Cox Plate.
Fiorente and Americain are among 22 sires with four or more lots in the VOBIS catalogue.
