Tasmanian Breeding Holds Its Own
Monday, 21 June 2010: The carnival featured races for open company sprinter/milers, fillies and mares, 3YOs and 2YOs conducted over three meetings are provided a great opportunity for local owners and trainer to earn excellent prize money outside of the rich summer carnival.
Tasmanian sale graduates or Tasmanian bred gallopers dominated this carnival, with this group winning 11 of the 12 feature races conducted.
Of the 12 feature races conducted, eight were won by Tasmanian yearling sale graduates.
May was an outstanding month for Tasmanian bred gallopers and in particular for Tasmanian sale graduates.
In total, 42 races were conducted in Tasmania during May, with over 75% (33) of the winners being Tasmanian-bred.
Impressively, 21 of these winners were graduates of the annual sale, an amazing 50% of the total winners in Tasmania during May.
What is more impressive is that the list included the unbeaten Socks, plus a selection of highly rated up and coming gallopers in Trysty, Tough Future, Gea Force and the St Leger winner Stadacona.
