Magic Trifecta In Ipswich Classic
Sunday, 20 June 2010: Prepared on the Gold Coast by David Kelly, Kryptelon was racing for the first time since a fifth placing in a feature fillies and mares race at Doomben in February.
Three runs back the classy performer ran second to Plain Magic in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Quality in January.
Kryptelon steamed home to beat Beyonce's Star by a length. Another head back in third place was the ever consistent Paprika ($3.70 fav).
The winner has been a great money spinner for connections considering she cost senior part owner Bruce Peterson just $18,000 at the 2006 Magic Millions Premier (QTIS 600) Yearling Sale.
With eight wins and 10 minor placings from just 27 starts, Kryptelon has earned over $215,000 and now being a stakes winner she is a valuable broodmare prospect.
By former outstanding Queensland sprinter Falvelon, Kryptelon is one of six winners produced by the international stakes performed mare Krypto Katie.
A daughter of Cryptoclearance, Krypto Katie won three races international and was second in a listed Windy City Stakes at Hawthorne.
Krypto Katie, who's dam is a stakes winner, is a half sister to two international stakes winners as well as top producing mare Ting a Tong (dam of G1 winner Campesino - Maanae).
Beyonce's Star almost gave her new connections a massive pay day when she dashed clear when turning for home.
Now in the stables of Bryan Guy, Beyonce's Star was a $40,000 purchase for Vin Cox at the recent Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
Third placegetter Paprika was a $75,000 yearling purchase from the Gold Coast.
Kelly has a readymade target for Kryptelon.
"I will freshen her up and look at the Grafton Ramornie - that will probably be the main goal at the moment.
"It's my hometown and I'd like to win the race," Kelly said.
