First Australian Winner For Greenwood Lake
Wednesday, 16 June 2010: Bred and raced by Dixon, Kate's Message achieved the distinction of being the first Australian winner for the US import Greenwood Lake, a foundation sire at Dixon's Racetree Stud.
She is the first winner raised on the stud using a sire in their stallion complex.
It was also an indication that he may become a successful sire like his celebrated three-quarter brother Success Express.
Success Express made his name as a top class sire from use on Racetree when it traded as Noble Park Stud in the ownership of Peter and Wendy Moran.
Greenwood Lake as sired 77 northern hemisphere winners, including 10 who have won or placed at stakes level, and 19 others placed from 115 runners.
Like Kate's Message, his American runners in the main have been fleet footed performers, not surprising as he was one of America's top two juveniles of 1999.
In that year his five outings included three wins headed by the G1 Champagne Stakes and G2 Remsen Stakes and a second in the G1 Belmont Futurity Stakes.
Greenwood Lake is by Meadowlake, a son of Hold Your Peace, sire also of Success Express.
They are from the same dam, British Columbia Oaks winner Au Printemps.
Another Racetree resident Monashee Mountain is the sire Pimpala Secret, who made it two wins from his only two outings with a dominant victory at Randwick on Saturday.
On the same day another youngster bred by Dixon, Right Reaction, won the juvenile event on the Darwin program.
Right Reaction is in the first crop of Bradbury's Luck, the young Redoute's Choice sire standing at Glenlogan Park Stud near Racetree at Beaudesert.
Another Beaudesert stud Willowbend is the home of Clang, sire of dual Stradbroke winner Black Piranha, Calaway Gal (Golden Slipper) and Clangalang (AJC Derby and Epsom).
Clangalang is making an impact as a sire in Victoria.
Willowbend also stood Monashee Mountain when he was a shuttle sire from 2001 to 2006.
The sire of over 160 winners, including Stradbroke winner La Montagna, he was acquired in 2008 by Racetree and has since covered two quality books of 91 mares each season.
A winner of four stakes races in Ireland from seven starts, Monashee Mountain is by Danzig from the Mr. Prospector mare Prospectors Delite, a winner of two G1 races, third in the Kentucky Oaks and a former US Broodmare of the Year.
Another of Prospectors Delite's foals is A.P. Indy's US Horse of the Year Mineshaft.
