My Atacanta Maintains A Traditiuon
Story By Christopher Wilde
Monday, 23 August 2010: My Atacanta made a big impact in WA by winning three of his four starts after joining the Perth stable of trainer Vaughn Sigley before he was forced into retirement this year by a leg injury.
My Atacanta is a valuable addition to the WA stallion ranks as he carries the same genetic crosses through his sire and dam as that featured in the make-up of the late champion sire Red Ransom ands well as current successful stallions Elusive City and Secret Savings.
Traditionally, a formidable G1-winning son of breed shaping influence Mr Prospector, is from the 1996 US Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign who in turn is a daughter of 1988 US Broodmare of the Year Grecian Banner.
Traditionally stood briefly at stud in New Zealand where he has left Group and stakes winning performers Chant and Smoulder.
Traditionally's sire Mr Prospector can only be described as a thoroughbred phenomenon.
The Mr Prospector sire line in Australia is represented through numerous exceptionally well bred sons including members who have producedg outstanding Australian bred racehorses such as Eremein (Timber Country); Weekend Hussler (Hussonet) Haradasun (Fusaichi Pegasus); Whobegotyou and Shocking (Street Cry); Dash For Cash (Secret Savings).
My Atacanta is from the immediate family of champion undefeated Turn-to descended juvenile Cure The Blues, a pedigree unique to Perth as he is the only Irish bred son of Traditionally to stand at stud in Australia.
Traditionally blends his proven sire line with the US-bred mare Rihan, a winner at 1200m at two years of age in Great Britain.
She is by the emphatic broodmare sire Dayjur, who was crowned English Horse of the Year at three years of age after sweeping all before him winning the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye, G1 Haydock Sprint Cup and the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes.
Dayjur is noted as being the dam sire of the NZ based sire Elusive City, the G1 Prix Morny winner by Elusive Quality.
Elusive City is cleverly bred on the same well performed Mr Prospector/Danzig cross as My Atacanta.
Sweet Roberta, My Atacanta's second dam is by the dominant Turn-to male line sire Roberto, best known as the sire of Vinery's champion ill-fated sire Red Ransom.
Red Ransom's dam sire is the acclaimed US Horse of the Year Damascus, also recognised by breeders in Australia as the maternal grand sire of the Mr Prospector line stallion Secret Savings.
Secret Savings was imported to race under Australian conditions as a Northern Hemisphere time bred entire, as was My Atacanta.
Secret Savings was a fast winner of the G1 Doncaster Handicap over 1600m at Randwick and the G3 m Frederick Clissold Handicap at Rosehill in track record time for 1200m of 1.8.51, testament to his own Mr Prospector/Damascus nick.
