Ligament Injury Rules Shamoline Warrior Out Of Spring
Story By Alex Steedman
Friday, 3 September 2010: Nominated for the Cox Plate and both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, the Mark Kavanagh stable today reported Shamoline Warrior would miss the spring due to a ligament tear sustained since he resumed in the Group 2 J.J Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 14.
The ligament is torn above the sesamoid which will require the promising four-year-old to have two months in the paddock.
Shamoline Warrior's latest setback follows the disappointment experienced by connections leading up to last years Group 1 VRC Derby.
Favourite to take out the VRC Derby (2500m) following a convincing win in the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes (2000m), Shamoline Warrior was scratched on the morning of the Derby after he succumbed to a lung infection.
The four-year-old son of Shamardal can now be added to a growing casualty list of Group performed gallopers who will miss the spring due to injury or illness.
Mick Price-trained Predatory Pricer was ruled out of spring calculations earlier this week due to a hock infection while the carnival has also lost dual Group 1 winner Littorio (Tendon) and promising Group 3 winning stayer Kutchinsky (Virus).
