Heath Conners The Get Out Factor In The Last At Geelong

Monday, 6 September 2010: Once again after some awful weather the Geelong Synthetic track will save the day and in fact three Victorian racedays in a row, such is the fast turnaround ability of this venue.

Every state of Australia should have one.

Conners has Out Of The Desert and Hennessy Rhythm entered in the Ratings 62 over 1300m, with the former drawn better and the recipient of a 3kg claim although coming back from the mile.

Out Of The Desert can race in or near the lead and already has beaten a Ratings 62 field, which is the class of opposition he meets today, after carrying 57.5kg all the way at Sale mid June.

The gelding prepared at Caulfield will have 56kg to carry here, after the apprentice claim of rider Talia Rodder, and they may not catch it over 1300m.

Three starts back saw him carry 53kg in a Ratings 78 over 1400m at Sandown-Lakeside on heavy ground into third albeit beaten four lengths, after setting the pace, and if he reproduces anywhere near that effort it will be enough to win today.

Truly Fantastic finished last in that Sandown race and has since come out and easily won a Ratings 78 at Echuca.

Olympic Win finished seventh and has since come out and placed third behind the talented mare Ghostmilk in an open handicap at Moonee Valley.

Amerryking finished sixth and has since won an open 1800m handicap at Warracknabeal.

Out Of The Desert can make it four recent winners from that race today.

Hennessy Rhythm has not liked the wet tracks of late and will be suited here on the ever-constant Geelong Synthetic track, a venue he has some experience on already.

The natural off pacer entire four starts back resumed this campaign here on the synthetic track and went a decent race for a not far away sixth under 58.5kg in a Ratings 62 over 1300m.

Three starts back he placed third here under 55kg to Ripleys, after a claim, versus the same class of opposition he meets today and Talia Rodder rode plus the winner has since won again to strengthen the form worth.

Today sees that apprentice ride the first selection for the Conners team and the experienced Eddie Cassar take the mount on Hennessy Rhythm here.

I do not see the 57.5kg or outside gate a problem for Hennessy Rhythm, as his racing pattern is not affected and the weight is very manageable indeed.

He is the danger to his stablemate today and represents potential value plus the blinkers go on for the first time, which will help him focus.

Darrange has not won for well over a year but this galloper has the ability to deliver against this grade and was good enough as a younger horse to place at Listed level in the Gibson-Carmichael (1600m) at Flemington.

He has won up to Ratings 72 and placed in an open three-year-old handicap, so you know he has the ability to put away what he meets today.

The five-year-old is now with the astute Bill and Symon Wilde team at Warrnambool and I see a quick win on the horizon, especially after the last start second on heavy ground versus Ratings 68 for them where the blinkers went on for the first time.

Two runs back he showed he could cope on the Geelong Synthetic track just fine in a Ratings 72, when in another stable, so the class of opposition today poses no threat.

His career best rating would be enough to put this field away easily.

Arch Pegasus has not been suited since resuming by striking wet tracks, so he should enjoy the better footing today even if it is of a synthetic nature.

I noted he had some inspired support fresh up at Wodonga in a Ratings 68 over 1100m and started favourite on the far from helpful slow footing.

It is not hard to see this top of the ground son of Fusaichi Pegasus being a win threat today under 58.5kg against Ratings 62 company, as he has already beaten that class before carrying 58kg.

Keen on the Conners pair of Out Of The Desert and Hennessy Rhythm but it is not hard to make a case for Darrange and Arch Pegasus.
