Doubtful Jack Dominates Bobbie Lewis

Saturday, 4 September 2010: The consistent four-year-old stepped out in today's Bobbie Lewis Quality in a bid to claim his first success at Group level.

Today's event was Doubtful Jack's first start since he won the Listed Winter Championship Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 10 by over 6 lengths.

Against stronger opposition today, Doubtful Jack still managed to record a dominant win after he sat up on the lead throughout before kicking away by over three lengths.

Robbie Griffiths-trained Beltrois finished second with outsider About Ready in third.

After Doubtful Jack took today's rise into Group level in his stride, Moody will again raise the bar for the Not A Single Doubt gelding.

“That was very pleasing,” Moody said.

“There is no doubt he excels on the wet ground but he has just been dominant and who is to say the wet isn't going to hang around.”

“He had five or six runs during the winter and we've just kept him ticking over with the aim being to go to the Rupert Clarke and the Toorak.

“Traditionally September has been our wettest month for the last four or five years, I just hope the rain hasn't gone off early.”

Jockey Luke Nolen was today back aboard Doubtful Jack who he partnered in the Winter Championship last start.

“He has come back well,” Nolen said. “He had that residual fitness.”

“I don't think we can pigeonhole him as just a wet tracker. I can't wait to see what he does on top of the ground.”

Doubtful jack has now won his past four starts by a combined margin of 20 lengths and is an exciting prospect heading into the spring.

He currently boasts an imposing career record of seven wins, two minor placings and just under $500,000 in earnings from 13 career starts.

The surprise of today's Bobbie Lewis Quality was the disappointing performance of favourite Love Conquers All who ran a distant last.

Under pressure a long way from home, Love Conquers All on returning to the enclosure was found to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia.

Before the four-year-olds can have his next start, stewards have requested the Hawkes team provide a veterinary certificate and ECG approving the fitness of Love Conquers All who then needs to trial to the satisfaction of stewards over 1000m.
