Zagreb Given Another Go
Friday, 17 October 2008: | | Photo by Racing and Sports | The lightly-raced son of Zabeel could manage only 11th behind Littorio in the Turnbull Stakes as his final lead-up run to tomorrow's race but as has been well documented he swallowed a chunk of turf and couldn't breathe.
With that in mind, and with the addition of blinkers in tomorrow's race, a couple of punters have decided to give the four-year-old another go.
At his only try beyond 2000m he came from near last to finish runner-up in the SA Derby behind Zarita, and has just 52kg from an ideal gate tomorrow.
Zagreb has been the subject of three individual bets beginning with $8000 each-way at $18 yesterday and then two bets this morning of $11,000 at $17 to win and $4000 at $5 to place, quickly followed by $17,000 at $17 to win and $5000 at $5 to place.
The wagers, which will return $622,000 if successful, have tightened his price to $13 as a result.
Littorio has been backed with a couple of wagers today, including $3000 each-way at $5.50, while money continues to come for Weekend Hussler, with two $10,000 bets at $4.40.
Mad Rush has been specked at longer odds into $21.00, as has Riva San with one bet of $5000 at $23.00 forcing her price to $21.00.
At even longer odds All The Good has had a bet of $1000 at $51 and Barbaricus one bet of $3000 each-way at $126, shortening his price to $101
