Williams Takes Capecover Cup Ride
Tuesday, 14 October 2008: Fieldes has booked WIlliamsWilliams for the ride on Capecover in Thursday's $130,000 Moe Cup to press the stayer's claims for a Melbourne Cup start.
"He won the Cranbourne Cup on Majestical for Matthew Enright on Sunday and I'm happy he can do the same for me," said Fieldes.
Enright rode in New Zealand with success for many years when based at Foxton before moving to Australia and taking out a trainer's licence.
Capecover is fully qualified for the Melbourne Cup but is currently 52nd in order of entry.
"I've also nominated him for the Coongy Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday, but at this stage I'm inclined to run him in the Moe Cup," said Fieldes.
"There are all sorts of options for him with the Moonee Valley Cup and the Saab as well."
Capecover began his Australian campaign on a high note when he won the Listed Tokyo City Cup at Morphettville.
He has had little luck in two runs since with an interrupted passage when unplaced in the JRA Trophy at Moonee Valley and then striking a wet track in Sydney when seventh in the GI AJC Metropolitan at Randwick on October 4.
"We took a punt on the weather in Sydney," said Feildes.
"That was the right race for him but the track was too wet - he's got to get a grip.
"I'm really happy with the way he's hitting out. I just don't want any rain.”
