Whobegotyou Will Be Derby Hotpot

Already $2.25 to win the Flemington Classic (2500m) next week, Whobegotyou dominates betting for the Vase (2040m) at $1.55 with both Eskander's Betstar and TAB Sportsbet.

Betstar's racing manager Michael Horne said it all depended on Whobegotyou's performance on Saturday but it was hard to see him getting beaten in the lead-up race.

"If he was to come out and brain them, running away, I think he would probably touch odds-on for the Derby," Horne said.

"The only real query is the distance even though he looks like he will eat it up in the Derby.

"We just haven't seen anything that can go near him at this stage."

Whobegotyou thrilled the crowd at his last Moonee Valley appearance when he rounded up the field in the Group Two Stutt Stakes (1600m) and won racing away by 3-3/4 lengths.

Last start he was just as impressive coming from near last to win the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) by 3-1/4 lengths.

Significantly Helenus (2002) and Red Anchor (1984) are the only two horses to win the Stutt Stakes-Caulfield Guineas double and both won the Victoria Derby as odds-on favourites.

Red Anchor won the Cox Plate in his Derby lead-up and Helenus won the AAMI Vase.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh could have run Whobegotyou in the Cox Plate on Saturday but felt the AAMI Vase was a kinder option for the Street Cry gelding.

"It is a bit scary how much potential this horse (Whobegotyou) actually has," Horne said.

He said Sousa could be the colt to test Whobegotyou after winning the Group Three Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle and Group One Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick at his last two starts.

"It will be interesting to see how he measures up," Horne said.

"He appreciated the wet track when he demolished them last start in Sydney but he will be meeting Whobegotyou on top of the ground on Saturday."

Sousa is second favourite for the Vase at $4.60 with Betstar and $4 with TAB Sportsbet.

Carnero is the only other horse under double-figure odds at $8 and $7 with the respective betting agencies
