UK: Jukebox Jury In Tune For Johnston
Friday, 24 October 2008: | | Mark Johnston | The son of Montjeu has kept good company all season and gained reward for a couple of fine efforts in defeat when winning the Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot last month.
The Middleham handler said: "He has had a nice break since Ascot and it is really the perfect gap between the races. We have always thought very highly of him and he was running in Group races at an early stage of his career."
Johnston added: "He has proven himself over the mile and stays every inch of the trip. We will probably start him off in the 2000 Guineas next year but long-term, he could be a potential Derby horse.
"We have always thought he was up to Group class and hopefully, he can confirm that tomorrow."
Michael Jarvis believes the mile will suit Sri Putra, who will be tackling the trip for the first time.
"The distance will suit him, very much so. He's out of an In The Wings mare and he's been wanting another furlong," said the Newmarket trainer.
The colt landed the Group Three Solario Stakes on his second start but then lost his unbeaten record at Newmarket where conditions were against him.
"The ground was quite quick at Newmarket on that particular day and he didn't handle it very well running into the Dip," Jarvis went on.
"It's a competitive race but I think he warrants taking his chance."
