Samantha Miss Takes To The Valley
Story By Chris Scholtz
Tuesday, 14 October 2008: | | Samantha Miss | Trainer Kris Lees had no concerns after his three-year-old had an easy gallop around the W.S. Cox Plate course under her rce jockey Glen Boss.
“We just wanted to get her accustomed to the track and have a look around today," Lees said.
“She's in good order and has done well since she arrived in Melbourne last Saturday.”
Lees intends taking Samantha Miss from her Caulfield stables back to Moonee Valley on Saturday for a more serious gallop with her Cox Plate jockey Glen Boss.
Samantha Miss will attempt to become the only the second 3YO filly to win the $3 million Tatts Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday week.
Surround was the first and only filly to win the Cox Plate in 1976.
Samantha Miss is already a dual Group One winner and is unbeaten in four Sydney starts this season.
BossGlen Boss was impressed by the way Samantha Miss adapted to the Valley circuit today.
“She handled herself brilliantly. She really relaxed and had a good look around,” Boss said.
"She is intelligent and very relaxed and that could be the key."
Boss will waste hard over the nxt 10 days to get down to the filly's Cox Plate weight of 47.5kg.
His regime will include a special diet, boxing two or three times a day and long walking exercise.
Boss, who takes over from the heavier Hugh Bowman, has not ridden at a similar weight in six years.
Melbourne Cup winner Efficient and stablemates Zipping and C'est La Guerre will work at Moonee Valley on Wdnesday morning.
Joining them will be Pat Hyland's star mare Zarita which is bypassing the Caulfield Cup and is now headed towards a Cox Plate start.
