Rawiller Delves Into History For Cup Edge
Friday, 17 October 2008: | | Photo by Bronwen Healy | Rawiller has delved into the history of the race by viewing video replays throughout the week in search of a common theme of winners.
In fact he's scrutinised 13 runnings of the 2400m handicap and believes the best place to be will be just off the speed.
“I've gone through it all week with Ross McDonald and (son) Clint, and have gone home and had a good look at them myself.
“There's no doubt the main winning spot is seventh, eight. Kaapstad Way (second) and Diatribe came from second last and last and Elvstroem and Might and Power were able to lead.”
McDonald he hoped Rawiller would be able to find a position better than midfield from his barrier 11, adding the most important factor was to get him to relax.
He is confident Rawiller, as well as Weekend Hussler, can bounce back from their last start defeat in the Turnbull Stakes.
Rawiller has also sought advice from his brother, Nash, who won the race in 2004 on Elvstroem with a gutsy ride to hold off Makybe Diva.
Both Nash and McDonald agreed patience in the straight would be where the race would be won.
After solid support through the week Weekend Hussler is a $4.60 chance in the latest Sportingbet market, ahead of Turnbull Stakes winner Littorio at $5.50.
