QUEENSLAND: Support For Non-TAB Racing
Thursday, 23 October 2008: However QRL chairman Bob Bentley said the lack of acceptances received for a number of meetings scheduled for this Saturday highlighted the need to implement changes announced at this week's forum.
“On Saturday, QRL has permitted meetings in Mount Isa and Springsure to proceed despite not meeting the required benchmarks," Bentley said.
“Springsure will stage a four race card with only 21 acceptances for their annual meeting, whilst Mount Isa only received 27 acceptances for their five race card.
“The increased volume of meetings allocated during this period causes a significant issue and this also impacted on the meeting scheduled for Gladstone where only 30 acceptances were received.
"As a show of good faith to regional stakeholders, QRL has taken the decision to proceed with all meetings scheduled across the weekend.
“This issue clearly highlights why the racing schedule needs to be developed to maximise opportunities for all participants.”
Bentley said QRL will provide a draft 2009/10 integrated racing schedule for the next meeting of the Queensland Country Racing Committee in December.
