Pompeii Ruler - Tendon Injury Cancels Spring Plans
Pompeii Ruler - Tendon Injury Cancels Spring Plans
The damaged tendon will see Pompeii Ruler relinquish another shot at the $3million Cox Plate on October 25. He ran third in the 2006 Cox Plate behind Fields Of Omagh and El Segundo.

The injury-plagued galloper missed out on last years Cox Plate when he damaged his off-fore suspensory ligament which resulted in him going for a lengthy spell.

Pompeii Ruler was the fourth favourite ($8.00) to take out this years Cox Plate behind the likes of Weekend Hussler, Princess Coup and Samantha Miss.

This time around, Pompeii Ruler's tendon injury will result in him being sent to the paddock for three months.

It is a disappointing end to a campaign which promised so much. Pompeii Ruler resumed with a half-length third behind Weekend Hussler in the Group 2 Memsie Stakes on August 30. The six-year-old then went on to be the runner up in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes on September 20 also behind Weekend Hussler.

The Genuine gelding appeared to have pulled up fine following his second in Saturday's Yalumba Stakes behind Douro Valley. Soreness was evident in the leg of the Mick Price trained galloper the next day.

Regular rider of Pompeii Ruler Craig Newitt was eagerly looking forward to Pompeii Ruler's tilt at the Cox Plate following his Yalumba effort.

It is expected the jockey will now ride Alamosa in the Cox Plate. The connections of Saturday's Toorak Handicap winner want the four-year-old to head to the $3million race opposed to the Group 1 Emirates Stakes as was first thought.

In other Cox Plate news, the connections of Zarita have elected to bypass this weekends Group 1 Caulfield Cup for the Cox Plate Saturday week.
