One More Chance For Moatize

Cummings, who is regarded as the Cups king with 11 successes in the race, will saddle up Viewed in Tuesday week's race and perhaps Sirmione, who is engaged in this Saturday's Tattersall's Cox Plate.

Moatize, who only broke his maiden status a couple of starts ago, ran well in yesterday's Geelong Cup, coming from well back to finish runner-up behind English galloper Bauer.

While the winner is today expected to receive a re-handicap big enough to elevate him into the Melbourne Cup field, Moatize gained nothing from yesterday's run and remains, at this stage, 42nd in order of entry.

Cummings said yesterday he will now look at either the Mackinnon Stakes or SAAB Quality Stakes on Saturday week as the final chance for the gelding to qualify.

The preferred option for Cummings is always the Mackinnon, but he feels Moatize may find the weight-for-age assignment too tough so is likely to tackle the longer SAAB.

A win in either race would gain a ballot exemption in the $5.5 million feature race.

Geelong Cup third placegetter Magic Instinct, 57th in order of entry, is also likely to run in the SAAB.
