Kiwi Cup Winners Prepare For Flemington
Friday, 17 October 2008: Prize Lady ran a meritorious sixth placing two weeks ago behind Princess Coup in the $2 million Kelt Capital Stakes at Hastings under weight-for-age conditions.
She will again be ridden by Mark Sweeney who won the Auckland Cup on the mare last March. It was Prize Lady's second straight win in the 3200 metres feature, having won in 2007 in the hands of Mark Du Plessis.
Prize Lady, a seven-year-old mare by Prized, has compiled a race record of four wins and and seven placings. A win in tomorrow's $65,000 feature would take her earnings beyond $1 million.
Prize Lady holds a nomination for the $5.65 million Melbourne Cup where she has been allotted 51 kilos.
Young Centaur has also been weighted on 51kg and Noel Harris has been booked for the ride at Flemington.
Harris will combine with Young Centaur tomorrow at Tauranga.
The son of Melbourne Cup winner Jeune will be having his third run back from a spell.
He's won seven races in all, including last January's Wellington Cup when ridden by Michael Walker.
Prize Lady and Young Centaur will be opposed by quality race mare Katy Keen.
She was unplaced in the Kelt Capital Stakes but she will be suited coming back to handicap conditions.
