Kibbutz To Sit Out Caulfield Cup
Thursday, 16 October 2008: | | Photo by Racing and Sports | The David Hayes-trained stayer has developed a foot abscess and to ensure he has his best chance to win next month's Melbourne Cup Kibbutz will sit out this weekend's feature race.
Part owner Terry Henderson said the setback is only minor but enough to halt his campaign.
“It's as simple as a foot abscess,” Henderson told Radio 4TAB. “It's relatively minor but this far out from the race very serious. It's hard to keep a shoe on him so in the interest of getting him ready for the Melbourne Cup he should come out of the Caulfield Cup.”
Henderson said the plan was to give him an easy week and try to get him back on track with a run in the MacKinnon Stakes.
In better news for the OTI Racing syndicate, imported stayer Bauer has settled in well at Sandown and is ready to make his Australian debut.
“He did his final piece of fast work prior to going to the Geelong Cup next week and he's coming along well.”
Kibbutz has drifted to $51.00 for the Caulfield Cup and is a $41.00 chance for the Melbourne Cup with Sportingbet.
Bauer is also at $41.00 for the Melbourne Cup.
