Hyland Hesitates On Cup Start For Zarita
Story By Chris Scholtz
Monday, 13 October 2008: | | Zarita | Hyland will wait to see how Zarita comes through her Tuesday trackwork before making a Caulfield Cup commitment.
Hyland is leaning towards keeping Zarita for the $3 million Tatts W.S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday week.
He feels the four-year-old, despite her excellent record in Group races, is not well off at the weights in the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup with 52kg.
He also believes the Caulfield Cup is shaping as a tougher race than the Cox Plate, which may fall short of a full field.
"The Cup may be more competitive than the Cox Plate,” Hyland said.
“We have the option of going to either but we'll wait to see how she works on Tuesday."
Sydney stayer Fiumcino may also be pulled from the Caulfield Cup and saved for the Moonee Valley Cup on Saturday week.
Last year's AJC Derby winner failed in the AJC Metropolitan at Randwick on October 4 with trainer John Hawkes to make a decision on the stayer's program on Tuesday
