Gorby Seeks Another Win
Story By by Gary Crispe
Tuesday, 14 October 2008: | | John Shelton | Heading the field is top weight Gorborchov an impressive last start Ballina winner in RB62 grade just eight days ago.
The Fasliyev gelding has raced times for two wins and has found his best form since coming north after doing his early racing in Sydney.
He was heavily backed over 1300m in RB62 grade when making his debut for the Shane Randall stable at Ballina but lost all chance when he reared at the start.
Stewards ordered a trial which Gorborchov won by twelve lengths but the experience must have worked because last time out he was very impressive shouldering 57.5kgs to win over 1000m in the same class defeating City Lights by three lengths.
Today he steps up marginally in class but looks to have made enough improvement to take beating again.
The danger could be the well weighted Onestepcloser trained on the Grafton track by John Shelton..
The Dodge six-year-old second up from a spell is already a winner at Grafton over this course and distance when resuming 17 days ago.
Young apprentice Adam Hyeronimus who was aboard the gelding last start will again have the mount and his three kilo claim reduces Onestepclosser's weight to a luxury 51kgs.
He will get 7 kilos off GorborChov who will need to be at his best to hold him out.
The lightly raced Easy Silence rounds out the winning chances.
Trained by Stephen Lee, she has won twice from only five starts and also comes into the race as a last start winner at Ballina over 1000m in RB62 company.
That was her third run in this preparation and her second win , her only defeat this campaign being when she tackled a strong class 1 handicap at Ipswich second up.
Joshua Jones who has been aboard the mare every run since joining Lee's stables will again have the mount.
She looks well suited to race well again.
The Terry Commerford-trained Luctonian could be a surprise at odds.
He has been racing over longer of late but drops back in distance to 1000m this afternoon from 1400m but comes off a nice 35 day freshen up.
He has been racing in much harder class of late and will appreciate these conditions.
