Girl Ready To Dance
Story By by Gary Crispe
Friday, 24 October 2008: The Kevin Kemp-trained mare, with five wins and five minors from just 12 career starts, has won both her starts at Toowoomba and looks hard to beat again in today's open sprint.
After winning her first three starts Dance Girl Dance went for a spell, the was runner-up twice on end before winning again third up before another break.
Last time in she was tested in tougher grade, resuming with another second before finishing third then stepping right up in grade.
Tackling the Group 3 Dane Ripper Stakes over 1400m at Eagle Farm, she blew the start and missed the kick by a few lengths, settling at the tail and racing there throughout.
Turning near last, she powered home to finish fifth, beaten 3.6 lengths, behind Vietnam in a massive run.
She then tackled the Listed Waterhouse Stakes over 1350m at Ipswich and jumped much better, sitting third throughout before battling home strongly, finishing third behind Bareena and beaten only a long neck in a three-way photo.
At her last run of the winter carnival, she tackled the Group 1 Winter Stakes over 1400m at Eagle Farm but drew off the track in barrier 16.
After going forward and facing the breeze throughout, she weakened right out of it in the straight and finished 18th behind Absolut Glam, going out for a well earned break.
Resuming in far easier grade over 1200m at Doomben, she had a big weight and after settling off the speed on the inside got home hard and in the nick of time, scoring a last stride win over Kryptelon.
She meets a tougher line-up of open class sprinters this time but drops nicely in the weights by 4kg.
She is yet to miss a place second-up and is two form two at the track, plus has two wins and a second from three tries at the trip.
The mare has drawn ideally in barrier six, where she will be able to sit just off a hot speed, and on her home turf looks hard to beat again.
The talented Upilio resumes from a spell and generally runs well fresh so should prove the biggest danger.
The Liam Birchley-trained gelding, like Dance Girl Dance, tackled a few stakes races over the winter carnival, finishing fifth in the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich behind Sneaky Long, fourth in the Glasshouse Handicap behind Pinnacles and ninth in the Ramornie at Grafton.
He then dropped back to a Class 6 at Eagle Farm and despite a big weight and wide gate proved too good, scoring a 1.3 length win over stablemate Rosco's Circus.
He has a win and three minors from six fresh-up runs and will appreciate this class, as he's sprint much of his like tackling tougher races.
The gelding has started three times at the track for the one placings but again has raced in tougher grade, such at the Weetwood, where he hasn't had a lot of luck.
The hot pace will suit fresh as he'll drift back and hit the line hard and with 55.5kg today looks very well placed in this company.
Sequallan was a last start open handicap winner over 1000m at Eagle Farm after tacjkling tougher races in Sydney early in the spring.
He is well placed after the claim and although drawn off the track should give a big sight.
Borsha's Warrior goes well fresh and has a nice weight and from a decent draw will be in the firing line throughout.
Mi Cielo is honest and racing well, with a win and three minors from her last four starts. She has drawn wide but goes well on her home track and is worth including.
