GUNDAGAI: On The Road To Gundagai
Thursday, 16 October 2008: The five-year-old Monterey Bay has struck a rich vein of form with four successive wins that have taken him from the country tracks to back-to-back victories in Sydney at Canterbury.
Blundell has enjoyed mixd fortunes in the Snake Gully Cup since its inception in 1985.
He has cracked it for just one win with the locally-owned Carvalin in 1998, a horse who ran in tfive e Snake Gully Cups and filled minor placings in four other years with two seconds and two thirds.
* THE recently renovated Gundagai track will be put to the test next week to ensure it is in top condition for the two-day Snake Gully carnival on November 14 and 15.
The track came under fire last month after the track was deemed unsafe for racing at its first meeting after extensive renovation work.
The meeting was abandoned following two races due to a slippery surface but has now had mor time to consolidate and will be used for barrier trials over 1000m on October 21 to test the track.
The two-day carnival will be held on November 14 and 15 with record $243,000 prizmeoney on offer to make it the stand out event of spring racing in the southern districts of NSW.
The $60,000 McAlister and Saunderson Snake Gully Cup (1400m) headlines the first day of the carnival and is renowned for its party atmosphere, fashions and marquees.
