Full Cup Field As Expected
Tuesday, 14 October 2008:  | | Weekend Hussler | The 2007/2008 Racehorse Of The Year Weekend Hussler will carry the number one saddlecloth in a full field of 18. The barrier draw will be conducted befor the Thousand Guineas meeting on Wednesday.
Weights were raised 1.5kg at acceptance time, making the task for Weekend Hussler more difficult as he now will be required to carry 57kg.
There are 22 final acceptors including four emergencies with the Melbourne Racing Club committee not required to invoke their discretionary powers to deteremine the make up of the field.
Three horses were balloted in accordance with the order of entry after 25 horses were declared at 9am.
The three horses eliminated from the final field were Baughurst, Get Up Jude and The Wolverine.
The field includes the 2007 Caulfield Cup winner Master O'Reilly and Maldivian, the horse sensationally scratched moments befor the race after being injured in the starting barrier.
Douro Valley, runner-up to stable-mate Master O'Reilly in 2007, goes into the Cup fresh from an impressive victory in the Yalumba Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday.
Dolphin Jo, trained at Stawell by Terry O'Sullivan, earned his place in the field by winning the Winning Edge Presentations Stakes on Saturday, a traditional lead-up race for the BMW Caulfield Cup.
South African-born jockeys Glyn Schofield and Jeff Lloyd will be riding in the Caulfield Cup for the first time.
Lloyd will partner AJC Derby winner Nom Du Jeu while Schofield will be riding Ice Chariot, who won the Queens Cup over 3200 metres in July.
It is a true international race with top UK trainer Luca Cumani represented by Mad Rush, to be ridden by four-time Caulfield Cup winner Damien Oliver, and the Godolphin stable starting All The Good, trained by Saeed Bin Saroor.
All The Good will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.
