Freedman Filly To Fly Higher
Friday, 24 October 2008: | | Lee Freedman | Freedman has Miss Scarlatti, Fly Higher and Charzoo engaged in the race but the former will be saved for another day as she heads towards the Crown Oaks.
The remaining pair, though, are winning chances according to the Hall Of Fame trainer, particularly Fly Higher who is ready to bounce back.
Fly Higher resented the winkers last start in the far tougher Group 1 Thousand Guineas where she was always well back from gate 16 and finished there behind Gallica.
The gear will be removed for tomorrow's run and she has drawn ideally in barrier two.
“The objective is to try to get some black type with these fillies and I think she's found the right race tomorrow,” Freedman told Sport 927.
Charzoo has been honest in recent runs before finishing seventh behind Gallica in the Manifold Stakes, the winner then franking the form in the Thousand Guineas.
“She's a filly who probably hasn't found her mark yet. She needs to step up a length or two but probably won't do that until next campaign.”
Meanwhile Romneya's Oaks campaign is over and she will now target shorter races.
Freedman said the filly failed to run out the journey of the Thousand Guineas and will drop back to seven furlongs at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.
He also has Estee headed towards the Oaks.
