ALBURY: Zarvista Ready To Resume
Story By Tony White
Friday, 24 October 2008: The five-year-old gelding, a winner of seven from 15 starts, resumes from a 154-day spell in the MV Manufacturing Group Open Hcp (1175m) after a sharp barrier trial win at Wagga.
“The horse spelled good and is well. He's done the work and I expect him to win,” Clancy said.
“We tossed up whether to take him to Sydney first up but decided on the bush first then we'll think about the future.”
Zarvista will be ridden by Clancy's 2kg claiming apprentice, 26-year-old Shelley Pollard.
“Shelley rides him most of his work. I'm pretty sure Zarvista is her pet horse,” Clancy said.
After Pollard's claim, Zarvista will carry 58.5kg in the nine horse field.
Clancy was pleased with Zarvista's trial, winning by two lengths over 1000m at Wagga on October 10.
Last preparation part-owner, Leeton businessman David Boots, knocked back a $350,000 offer for Zarvista, who won the Town Plate Prelude at Wagga before finishing runner-up to Midnight City in the Town Plate (1200m) on May 24.
Boots bred the gelding who is by Zariz out of the Paint The Stars mare, Designing Woman.
“David's a successful businessman and the offer for Zarvista was pretty good but he hasn't been that well lately. I think he figured the horse would give him more fun than the $350,000," Clancy said.
Clancy is considering a start at Gundagai on Snake Gully Cup day on November 14 for Zarvista then a return to the metropolitan area.
