ALBURY: Ross Plays Down His Hot Streak

Tuesday, 14 October 2008: Ross has just two horses in work – Marbe Lad and Donilly Lad - but between them they have made him the envy of his rivals in the southern districts with seven wins from their last 11 starts.

They have not finished worse than fourth when beaten.

Marbe Lad added to his trainer's formidable strike-rate at Albury's Oktoberfest meeting last Saturday when he recorded his fifth win from his lat six starts.

Ross seems embarrassed by his success and Marbe Lad's form.

“He's just a country horse and I'm just a country trainer, so we suit each pretty well,” Ross told the Border Mail after his latest win.

“He's been good to me - five wins from his last six wins ain't bad - but he's not good enough to be racing in much higher class than he has been.

“It's been a pretty good run but I don't consider myself a trainer - I'm just a hobbyist really.”
