Tat takes on tough crowd
Story By Jason Hickson
Friday, 15 February 2008: Three-year-olds have won half of the last 20 runnings of the race, fillies winning five of the last 10.
Moody gave Tan Tat De Lago some extra time off over the spring and will throw her in the deep end in tomorrow's feature sprint where she carries just 53kg under the weight-for-age conditions.
At her first and only campaign she won five of her seven starts, including an impressive win in the Group 3 Danehill Stakes down the straight at Flemington before finishing fourth in the Thousand Guineas Prelude then a spell.
“It's a big mission but the filly has always shown us good ability,” Moody told Sport 927.
“We gave her a little longer off over the spring and she wasn't ready to resume in a three-year-old race a few weeks back. She could have run in the Listed race (Nissan Stakes) tomorrow but we decided to test the water against the A-graders.
“She's really furnished during her spring break. Whether she's up to this grade we'll learn more tomorrow but she'll certainly be racing in the best of her age.”
Tan Tat De Lago has drawn well in barrier four for tomorrow's race where Moody expects jockey Luke Nolen to take a sit.
Sportingbet has posted the filly as a $15.00 chance while Apache Cat remains a warming favourite at $2.30 ahead of both Let Go Thommo and Miss Finland at $7.00.
