“I have today met with the Chairman of Racing Victoria Limited, Michael Duffy and offered my resignation from the position of Chief Executive Officer of RVL, which has been accepted, effective immediately.

"This has been a most difficult decision for me to make. After spending a lifetime in thoroughbred racing administration, I have an appreciation of the critical importance of integrity in the conduct of racing.

"While the recent events concerning my actions in betting under a non be plume were not a breach of the rules, it is clear that the action was inappropriate and a serious mistake.

"For that, I am deeply sorry.

"As a consequence of my actions, I do not believe it is possible for me to effectively lead RVL.

"I have always put the interest of the industry above my own and therefore, I have decided that I must do so again and with great sadness, leave RVL.

"It is important to me that I record my gratitude to the Chairman and Board of RVL and to all of the staff, with whom I've worked in my role as CEO”.

Statement by Racing Victoria Limited chairman MICHAEL DUFFY

“The board of RVL today accepted the resignation of the Chief Executive Officer of Racing Victoria Limited Stephen Allanson.

"On behalf of the RVL Board I thank Stephen for his services since his appointment in July 2006 and we wish him well for the future.

"Following the acceptance of Stephen's resignation, the RVL Board met to address the immediate requirement to replace Stephen, whose resignation became immediately effective.

"The Board resolved to appoint RVL's Director – Commercial, Bernard Saundry to the position of Chief Executive Officer (Acting).

"The Board also resolved to consider the process for determining the permanent replacement for Stephen at its next Board meeting on 6 March.”
