Racer set for more Adelaide riches
Story By Jason Hickson
Tuesday, 19 February 2008: The John McArdle-trained four-year-old was given the run of the race by the in-form Dean Yendall and joined in soon after straightening before racing away with a soft win over last year's Adelaide Cup runner-up Lacey Underall and Ready For More.
Yendall was thrilled with the way Richracer handled the 2250m – the furthest he has been – and was confident he would get the two miles of the Adelaide Cup on March 10.
“This horse has got gears and there is no danger he'll get two miles,” Yendall told media following the race.
The gelding, who races in the colours of 1864 Melbourne Cup winner Lantern, scored the first stakes win for owner Alan Fisher who is keen to chase Adelaide's $400,000 Cup and will use the Group 3 Tooheys New Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville on March 1 as his lead-up to the race.
