Newitt and Gauci Land Top Launceston Rides
Thursday, 21 February 2008:  | | Darren Gauci | Tasmanian product Newitt will return home to replace current champion jockey Brendon McCoull aboard promising filly Huiskes for the $100,000 Shaw Contracting Magic Millions Classic at Tasman Park on Launceston Cup day.
McCoull partnered Huiskes into third place in the $150,000 Gold Sovereign Stakes in Launceston last Sunday but the filly's owners have opted to replace the multiple premiership-winning rider.
Newitt will also ride Lady Atire for Melbourne trainer Michael Moroney in the AAMI Launceston Cup.
Longford trainer John Blacker has also called on the services of Gauci to ride his talented filly Butzie in Sunday's $150,000 PFD Food Services Tasmanian Oaks (2100m).
Gauci also will partner Blacker's former Tasmanian Derby winner Esterel in the $100,000 weight-for-age George Adams Plate (1600m) while Brighton trainer Terry Evans has snared the top rider for his three-year-old Miami Jack in the $50,000 3YO Classic.
In other Launceston carnival developments trainer Walter McShane will pay a late entry fee to get his exciting two-year-old Secdolrue into the a Magic Millions Classic.
Secdolrue scored an impressive win on debut in Launceston last Sunday by six lengths in slick time over 1100 metres.
He stopped the clock at 1.05.86, which was almost two seconds quicker than the other 2YO maiden winner and ran home his last 800m in 46.89.
His times were close to those set by Le Mont Blanc in the Class 4 (1100m) on the same program.
