Lou Has Many Reasons To Smile
Sunday, 17 February 2008: Sent out favourite on the strength of a breathtaking debut win in October, Amelia's Reason tracked the leaders throughout before launching a run shortly after turning for home.
From there the result was never in doubt and the son of Rory's Jester raced clear of his rivals for a soft win.
"It was a great win," trainer Lou Luciani said. "He's a real ready made racehorse and he's been perfect to train."
Luciani purchased the colt for $100,000 from the draft of Lindsay Park at last year's Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale at Belmont.
"He was just a cracking yearling at the sale," Luciani recalled. "He had it all and thankfully he's taking the right steps as a racehorse.
"His work had been great and I was quite confident coming to the races today."
Luciani said the youngster was right up there with the best two-year-olds he's trained during a long and distinguished career.
"Hardrada was a very good horse as a two-year-old but he was by Marooned and it was always looking as though he would train on," Luciani said.
"This bloke is by Rory's Jester and you'd expect him to be a runner earlier on and it's certainly turning out that way," Luciani said.
"I think he's got a bright future though, he's got plenty of ability."
Luciani said Perth's time honoured juvenile race, the $500,000 Karrakatta Plate, would be his next goal.
"It's actually a pity the Blue Diamond (Stakes in Melbourne) is actually next Saturday and not a week after - otherwise I'd be talking seriously to the owners about heading over," Luciani said.
At the post Amelia's Reason held a length and a quarter margin over the previously unbeaten Zeda Mak.
Fremantle was another length and a half back in third place for Singapore based star jockey Noel Callow.
Amelia's Reason is raced by Peter Walsh's Amelia Park Club - the same group who raced the 2005 MM Classic winner Lock the Vault.
