Launceston start not certain for AAMI Hobart Cup winner

Saturday, 16 February 2008: | | Offenbach after winning Hobart Cup | The gelding's trainer Darren Weir said today he would not be making a final decision on whether to tackle the AAMI Launceston Cup (2400m) until after the weekend.
Weir confirmed the Adelaide Cup is an option for Offenbach.
I am undecided at the moment about whether to go back to Tassie or head to Adelaide. I know one thing for sure and that is he can't run in both (races), Weir said.
On Monday I'll be making a firm decision on which way we are going, he said.
Meanwhile Caulfield trainer Rick Hore-lacy will make a decision on whether to tackle the Launceston Cup with his four-year-old mare Britomart after she tackles the FCM Travel Handicap over 2500 metres at Moonee Valley tomorrow.
Britomart battled on gamely to finish fourth at her previous outing at Flemington when ridden forward and out of her comfort zone.
She had won her two previous starts impressively but Hore-Lacy said she needs to perform well tomorrow to warrant a trip to Tasmania.
She was ridden out of character last start but that was because she got fired up early but we are hoping for a better performance tomorrow, Hore-Lacy said.
I'd say she would need to win, although near enough might also see her heading to Launceston, he said.
Final acceptances for the AAMI Launceston Cup are at 9.00am next Friday (February 22) with the official barrier draw to take place in the City Mall at noon.
The Peter Morgan-trained Nine Wives will go up against Britomart tomorrow and she too is on trial for a trip to Tassie.
Morgan, who prepared Mega Boss to win the Cadbury Tasmanian Derby last Sarturday, said Nine Wives would need to run a forward race to warrant taking her place in the AAMI Launceston Cup.
