Viscoride Track Key To Beaver's Success
Story By Graham Timbrell
Monday, 14 August 2006: He has also praised the newly renovated sand track.
The former Group One winning jockey rides all his own work and claims the Viscoride is the best surface he has ever ridden on.
“I give Yiannina all her slow work on the sand track and all her fast work on the Viscoride and she has thrived,” Schofield said.
“Horses just seem to glide over the Viscoride.
“It is a brilliant track to ride and work on
“I could not be happier training out of Wyong.
“The costs are reasonable and we have the best training facilities you could wish for.
“The horses are relaxed and happy and I am relaxed and happy.”
Schofield paid only $27,000 for Yiannina, (Carnegie-Illustrious) at last year’s Inglis Classic yearling sale.
“Some mates wanted to race a horse with me so we each threw in $5000 and I picked out about a dozen yearlings that I liked,” Schofield said.
“However they were all going for sixty and seventh thousand dollars and they were way out of our reach.
“Then Yiannina came into the ring and none of the big buyers were interested because she had a parrot mouth.
“She was one of the yearlings I had marked.”
Schofield said the mouth deformity was not bad and the filly had no trouble eating and drinking.
“It took her a while to work out how to eat grass when I first took her out for a pick each afternoon but she is fine with that now,” Schofield said.
“She pulled up a treat after last Saturday.
“She has not left an oat, is drinking plenty of water and is as bright as a button.”
Yiannina will press on towards the Princess series and will have her next start in the Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick on August 26.
