Tony tries to douse Haradasun fire
Story By Jason Hickson
Saturday, 19 August 2006: | | Nash Rawiller rides Haradasun today at Caulfield | Since his 10 length debut win at Swan Hill comparisons have been drawn between the three-year-old and older half brother Elvstroem.
Haradsun is being aimed at longer races this campaign, primarily the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) but then perhaps the AAMI Vase (2040m), the Tattersalls Cox Plate (2040m) and the Victoria Derby (2500m).
Vasil has warned today’s first city assignment, over just 1100m, against a talented line-up of three-year-olds will be short of his best but the colt has been supported into pre-post favourite with TAB Sportsbet to $5.00, ahead of Kaphero ($5.50) and Churchill Downs ($6.00).
Jockey Nash Rawiller is confident the colt will justify some of the boom later in the campaign but won’t be fazed if beaten this afternoon.
“I’m confident he’s the real deal,” Rawiller said. “I’ve ridden him three times in the last couple of weeks and he’s improved every time and impressed me.
“Saturday is his first hit-out though and just a kick-off to hopefully a good campaign.”
The Vain stakes is shaping as a hot contest of some very well performed juveniles including Blue Diamond Preview and Adelaide Magic Millions winner Khapero, Blue Diamond Prelude winner Duo Sasso, Sapphire Stakes winner Green Birdie, Widden Stakes, Magic Millions runner-up and Golden Slipper placegetter Churchill Downs, big last start winner Monaloushe, Bletchingly Stakes placegetter Snort, the unbeaten Sharkbite etc.
For Haradasun and particularly Vasil it’s another step towards bigger spring targets.
