Tesbury Jack Is Back
Story By Tim Bull
Tuesday, 15 August 2006: Tuned up for his return with a trial win at Sale on Monday, trainer Julie Scott has earmarked The Heath, a $100,000 Listed sprint over 100m as his starting point.
Scott was pleased with Tesbury Jack's trial effort.
“We have concentrated on trying to get him to settle," she said.
"The plan was to take hold of him and sit just off the pace. He did that and then quickened nicely when he was allowed a little more rein but he did work well within himself.
“Darren Gauci has said that as soon as he jumps he wants to win and he needs to learn to settle more in his races.
"We hope he’ll graduate to be taking on some handy horses this spring and will need to do everything right.
Scott said tesbury Jack slipped on the corner in his trial but recovered nicely and pulled up well.
Tesbury Jack won the 800m trial in 46.8 seconds, but could have gone quicker as he was under a good hold.
Tesbury Jack burst on to the scene earlier this year when, after finishing an unlucky third in a maiden at Bairnsdale, he went to Sandown and won an open 3YO race.
He then finished an unlucky third at Moonee Valley after suffering significant interference, but atoned a fortnight later at Caulfield when he lowered the colors of boom horse Magnus.
The campaign finished with the step up to the Listed Jayco Stakes at Flemington, which he again won impressively.
In each of this three city wins, Tesbury Jack has been just outside the track records.
In his last win he ran quicker time than Falkirk in the open sprint on the same day.
