Punters hop onto Certifier
Story By by Geoff Thomsen
Tuesday, 15 August 2006: | | Private Certifier | Jockey Anthony Cavallo had the gelding up running a close second behind pacemaker How Fantastique soon after the start and the pair had the race to themselves from the 1000m-mark.
How Fantastique established the early running but Cavallo sized up the situation and quickly pushed his mount along to get within a half-length soon after the start and held that position until late in the race.
Private Certifier had a good run behind the pacemaker before moving up to challenge swinging for home.
How Fantastique pinched a break approaching the 200m-mark but Private Certifier knuckled down when the pressure was applied and finished too well to score by a long neck.
Private Certifier had won his previous start at at Muswellbrook in similar class over 1500m and was always well in the market.
He firmed into $2.20 from an early quote of $2.50 before easing out to start favourite at $2.40.
There was some late support for How Fantastique, the mare backed into $7.90 late after getting out to $8.30.
Worondi ran on well after getting back in the field but was not a threat, finishing 2 1-2 lengths from the second placegetter.
