Hayes pencils in Penny Edition for Omagh

Wednesday, 16 August 2006:
Trainer David Hayes has been on the backfoot with the nine-year-old who injured a shoulder muscle recently but has said he is recovering well.

With that in mind, the Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville in three weeks could be used as a spring starter for the veteran giving Adelaide racegoers a rare chance to see him in action.

Tony McEvoy used the Penny Edition, then over 1450m at Victoria Park, as FOO’s final lead-up run to his 2004 attempt at the Tattersall’s Cox Plate in which he finished runner-up to Savabeel.

He won the weight-for-age lead-up as an odds-on favourite in a good hit-out but being a month earlier this time around it’s likely he’ll have another run, perhaps even two, leading into the Moonee Valley feature.

Fields Of Omagh, a winner of over $4.5 million in prizemoney, will be running in his fifth Cox Plate and won the race 2003 before placing in both 2004 and 2005.
