The Victorian-based, Jim Conlan-trained 2006 Doomben Cup and Norco Pauls A.D. Hollindale Stakes winner has won almost $1million in prizemoney.

Above Deck’s efforts in Queensland during this year’s winter carnival has him set for the W.S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in October and a likely trip to Hong Kong in December.

Carlton Draught Goldmarket winner Amex, locally trained by Alan Bailey, was awarded the Gold Coast Horse of the Year honour.

Boasting over $700,000 in prizemoney the six-year-old gelding has delivered ten wins, five seconds and six thirds from 57 starts for owner and breeder Geoff Kerrison and his eight co-owners.

After narrowly being beaten in the Group 3 BTC Sprint in May, Amex is now enjoying a well deserved spell.

Five-year-old All Bar One carried the pink and black colours of the Heinrich stable proudly this year and was named the Birkbeck’s Jewellers Gold Coast Trained Horse of the Year.

After a narrow defeat in the Magic Millions Sprint on the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions feature raceday in January, All Bar One went on to win a Quality Handicap at Doomben.

During a successful trip south to Caulfield the following month, All Bar One combined with Craig Williams to win the Listed JRA Stakes.

On his way home he stopped in to Sydney, finishing a respectable second in the Group 3 Liverpool Cup at Warwick Farm before stepping out to win the Sir Byrne Hart Group 2 at Eagle Farm.

Alan Bailey has taken out his ninth Gold Coast Bulletin Trainers Premiership.

Bailey, who scored 40 points, has been training for over 45 years and currently has a stable of approximately 65 horses in work throughout the year.

Three-time premiership winner Bryan Guy ran second on 23 points with top female trainer Gillian Heinrich notching up 16 wins for the season.

Bailey also took out the 2005/06 Trainers Premiership in Brisbane with 45 metropolitan wins.

Displaying similar dominance, Bailey's stable rider Chris Whiteley took out the Pipers Lodge Jockey’s Premiership.

After leading the entire season, Whiteley took the top riding honours with an impressive 64 points – twice as many as his nearest rival.

Daniel Griffin (32 points) and Nathan Day (28 points) took out the minor placings.

This is the third premiership victory for Whiteley who was just four rides short of matching his 2003-2004 season record of 68 wins.

Michael Palmer beat a talented field and a touch of friendly sibling rivalry with brother Matthew to take out the Traintech 2000 Apprentice Jockeys Premiership.

In what has been a wonderful season for the young hoop under the guidance of local trainer Gillian Heinrich, Michael only gained his license to ride in races after completing compulsory barrier trials in January this year.

Gold Coast Turf Club Chairman, Bill Millican, congratulated the winners at the presentation luncheon.

“The 2005/2006 season was sensational, with a lot of interstate success being realised by many members of the Gold Coast racing fraternity,” Mr Millican said.

“Our hearty congratulations go not only to today’s winners, but each and every person who has been involved with racing at our club over the past twelve months."
