Story By Chris Scholtz
Friday, 11 August 2006: | | Glen Boss | Boss is the 5/1 second favourite behind French star Gerald Mosse (7/2) to win the individual "Silver Saddle" trophy after drawing a strong book of rides.
The Rest Of The World team is at 4/6 to beat the local team of riders from England and Ireland.
Frankie Dettori will captain the Rest of the World team of Boss, Mosse, Japan's Yuichi Fukunaga, Canada's wonder girl Emma-Jayne Wilson and Hong Kong-based South African champion Douglas Whyte.
The Great Britain and Ireland team, quoted at 11/10, comprises captain Jamie Spencer, this year's premiership favourite Ryan Moore, Ireland's evergreen champion Mick Kinane, Seb Sanders, champion apprentice Hayley Turner and Robert Winston.
The Rest Of The World team firmed to odds on after team members drew dominant favourites in three of the six races.
Boss, riding in the UK for the first time, has attracted big media interest due to his feat of winning three successive Melbourne Cups on the great mare Makybe Diva.
At a press conference on Thursday Boss said he would be interested in a long term riding engagement in Britain.
"Obviously it would have to be the right offer, but coming over here to ride is something I would look at strongly," Boss said.
"To ride over here in the big meetings and to ride a Group 1 winner here is something you would love to have on your CV.
"You just don't know where it could lead you.
"I think you would really need the backing of someone initially and then you would find your way and see how it went.
"I've always been a freelance rider so it wouldn't bother me either way.”
