Big guns come out to play at Rosehill trials

Tuesday, 15 August 2006:
The horse was untroubled to win by 2 3-4lengths from Madeleine Belle and Wishyouweremine.

With a win over the mighty Railings and Carael Boy in the Kingston Town Stakes to his credit Stormhill has come back in excellent condition and he is likely to be a real threat in the feature staying races of the Spring.

Maiden galloper Standover Lady showed she was ready to break her duck when she scored a handy win in the second trial.

She has failed to record a win from her four starts but has not been beaten far in registering two seconds and a third in her four outings.

The Allan Denham-trained galloper handled the conditions like a veteran and it will not be long before she lands in the winner’s stall.

Unraced "boom" galloper Musket, a $2.5 million yearling purchase, was not knocked around in finishing fourth less than a length from the winner in his heat, the John Hawkes-trained galloper looking a treat as he went on to the track.

There has been much written about this fellow and his debut is eagerly awaited.

Glamour galloper Railings was more than impressive in finishing third in his trial, jockey Darren Beadman not knocking his mount around after making up many lengths in the final stages.

The Caulfield Cup winner has not started since finishing second to Eremein in the BMW over 2400m in the Autumn but showed some dash in finishing third behind Flying Dansino and stablemate Martinforus.

His first-up record does not read well with nothing registered in four outings but he will be a big threat in this season’s major staying events.

In the final trial the unraced Patronize left some notable gallopers in his wake as he recorded a narrow win for trainer Tim Martin.

A full brother to the smart Exceed And Excel much is expected of this galloper and his debut is eagerly awaited.

The John Hawkes-trained Headturner finished in the unplaced division, the horse ready to return after an unplaced effort in the AJC Derby. Darren Beadman did not knock him around but did finish off very nicely in the closing stages.

Headturner’s stablemate Malcolm also finished unplaced, the horse ready for a return after posting a close fourth to Racing To Win in the Doncaster when beaten 0.7 lengths.

Tough stayer Dizelle, also from the Hawkes stable, went around but is being readied for the longer races of the upcoming carnivals, having finished unplaced in the Metropolitan at her last outing.

Ends....
