Syndicate Swoops On Kentucky Derby Contender

Wednesday, 3 May 2017: The deal will see the unbeaten Irish War Cry stand beside his sire Curlin, himself a Kentucky Derby winner, at the Kentucky stud when his racing career ends.
BSW Bloodstock brokered the deal on behalf of a group of breeders led by Hill ‘n’ Dale’s John Sikura. Others in the syndicate include Glen Hill Farm, SF Bloodstock, Colts Neck Stables, China Horse Club, Bobby Flay, Sol Kumin and Vincent Viola.
The group is obviously putting a loit of faith in Irish War Cry’s potential to win the Kentucky Derby following his last start win in the G1 Wood Memorial in New York on April 8.
“Curlin has rapidly become one of the world’s leading sires,” Sikura said.
“Adding his outstanding son Irish War Cry to our roster is very exciting. We think he is a colt of classic ability and a world-class group of investors has been assembled to support him upon retirement.”
Irish War Cry will continue to race for owner Isabelle De Tomaso in her silks and Graham Motion will continue to train the colt until his retirement.
The striking chestnut won his first start at Laurel last November before adding a win in the Marylander Stakes in December.
He then won the G2 Holy Bull Stakes in his 3YO debut before his Wood Memorial victory.
Curlin, whose sired five G1 winners in 2016 including Preakness Stakes winner Exaggerator, currently stands at Hill ‘n’ Dale for $US150,000.
