Brilliant Goodwood Winner For Oratorio
Thursday, 29 July 2010: | | Oratorio | The three pound penalty he incurred as a result of his previous win, at Group Two level at Newmarket just over two weeks ago, proved no hindrance as he streaked to a six lengths win.
His impressive performance was underlined by the final time for the race that bettered the winning efforts of the likes of Shamardal, Lucky Story, No Excuse Needed and Dr Devious.
Winning jockey Richard Hughes was effusive in his praise of the youngster:
"It was a serious performance. Everybody wanted to make the running - I was going a good clip so we were flying.
"He's a classic contender after that. I haven't done the last two furlongs at Goodwood as fast as that in a long time, not in a seven furlong race."
Richard Hannon Jnr, son of winning trainer Richard Hannon said: "That was very impressive with a 3lb penalty. We'll either go for the Racing Post Trophy or the Dewhurst.
"He's a very laid back horse, like all Oratorios.
"He saves his best for the racecourse and you wouldn't know what's under the bonnet.
"He'll just get better and better."
The Hannon team has enjoyed plenty of success with the progeny of Oratorio, having raced last seasons Royal Ascot winning two-year-old Big Audio.
It has been a productive couple of weeks for Oratorio, who is already the sire of New Zealand's champion two-year-old elect Banshee.
His promising John O'Shea trained son Pacquiao took out a trial at Randwick last week just a few days after Upsala became his second Southern Hemisphere stakes winner.
Oratorio will return to Coolmore Australia for the 2010 season at a fee of $22,000.
