September Sale Numbers Down At Keeneland

Monday, 2 August 2010: The numbers are down 6.4% from the 2009 total of 5189 and represents a 12.6% decline from the sale record total of 5555 in 2008.

There are 2562 colts, 2292 fillies and three geldings in the 2010 catalogue.

The Kentucky sale will be held from September 12 to 26 with no selling on September 18.

Changes to the format include starting the sale on a Sunday instead of a Monday and conducting the first two sessions at night when 211 select yearlings (Book 1) will be on offer.

Book 2 will cover the next four days of selling when approximately 325 horses per session will be offered.

Yearlings by 294 stallions will be offered over the duration of the sale including 38 of the 40 leading active stallions on the US general sires list.

Special highlights will be the offering of two of the last three yearlings in the great Storm Cat's final crop.
