Lando Returns To Germany
Friday, 20 August 2010: One of the best German racehorses of recent times, Lando won seven G1 races including the Deutsches Derby and the Japan Cup in the colours of Hof Ittlingen.
The son of Acatenango – now 20 – stood at Hof Ittlingen until 2004, when good results from his first crops bred in Germany, which included G1 winners Epalo and Paolini, saw him transferred to Etreham in Normandy.
Lando's tally of G1 winners stands at six – Donaldson, Epalo, Gonbarda, Intendant, Paolini and Prince Flori.
He is also sire of evergreen stayer Caracciola and G1-winning chaser Air Force One. His fee at Etreham this year was €6,000.
Lando and Hof Ittlingen's owners Manfred Ostermann and Janet Leve-Ostermann said it was a sentimental decision.
"The decision to bring Lando home was emotional rather than rational, as there is still strong demand for him in France.
"Lando gave us so many unbelievable and unforgettable moments that, now he is advancing in years, we wanted to have him back near us again."
