DBS Pleased With End Result

Friday, 27 August 2010: The top price of £120,000 was hit three times but was the lowest for a sale topper at this sale since 2002, perhaps due to the apparent absence of Maktoum buyers.

It was left to an increasing force on the flat scene, Yorkshire owner Sir Robert Ogden, to dominate the top-end trade.

Following on from his big spending at Deauville he bought all of the final day's three six-figure lots.

They were led by an Elusive City colt who had cost vendor Paddy Twomey €40,000 in November.

DBS managing director Henry Beeby said general consensus was that the sale has been a resounding success.

"There has been a real buzz around the whole complex driven by the spectacular season on the track by recent graduates such as Canford Cliffs, Strong Suit and Sole Power to name just three.

“Our vendors have worked with us to produce a catalogue of consistently racy, commercial individuals and we resisted the temptation to fill up to the 500 maximum when it became clear that some likely candidates needed some extra time following the very hard winter.

“We have enjoyed a vibrant trade of great depth with a large and varied cast of bidders competing for yearlings that we again selected on a "conformation first - everything else second" basis.
