Cool WIn By Winter King
Monday, 16 August 2010: | | Winter King | The One Cool Cat four-year-old was the first horse to turn for home and it would only be from his NZ-bred stablemate Centennial Park (Thorn Park), that any question would be put to him.
Although the latter loomed large, Winter King had plenty in the tank for Glyn Schofield, who pushed him out to the line for a comfortable 1.3 length win.
Bred by Peter Gillespie and Bill Gleeson, Winter King is the winner of $331,105 in stakes.
The now seven win galloper is owned by Les Samba and Ron Medich, with the former purchasing the Wellfield Lodge–consigned colt at the 2008 Premier Yearling Sale for $175,000.
The Karaka graduate has shown a marked improvement since being gelded before this preparation, with his trainer David Payne now earmarking the G1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley as a likely target ahead.
Winter King is the 10th worldwide stakes winner for his sire and is the second stakes winning foal from dam, Something Special (Bletchingly)
Something Special was a three-time winner herself and of her six winners from seven to race, she counts the Listed winners How Good Is He (Fasliyev) and Winter King.
