Keeper Filly Looks Special

Sunday, 27 July 2008: The two-year-old filly had won her previous start at the Avondale meeting on June 28.

Keeper Special (ex Jasben) is trained at Pukekohe by Gareth McRae and Garry Newham. The latter formerly trained the champion galloper Starcraft.

McRae said the spring target for Keeper Special will be the Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock One Thousand Guineas at Riccarton in November.

"It's been a wonderful result for everybody concerned with the filly. We set her for this race after the Avondale win and believed she was up to the level of competition she met here," he said.

Keeper Special is raced by Margaret Watson, of Silverdale north of Auckland, who also bred the filly.

Keeper, who has sired 78 individual winners to date, is standing at Cambridge Stud in 2008 at a fee of $15,000 plus gst.

He is the sire of 11 individual stakes performers.
