Captain Rio Filly Tops NZ 2YO Free Handicap

Saturday, 2 August 2008: The filly was rated on 58kg in front of Fully Fledged (Align) on 57.5kg.

Multiple G1 winner Alamosa (O'Reilly) head the three-year-old division.

Alamosa was was rated on 62 kg, 1kg more than AJC Derby winner Nom De Jeu.

Il Quello Veloce, bred by Westbury Stud, won twice and was placed three times from her six juvenile starts.

Her placings included a second to Fully Fledged in the G1 Ford Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie but she bouncd back to win the G1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes where Fully Fledged finished fifth.

Captain Fantastic (Fantastic Light) and Vincent Mangano (No Excuse Needed) were both rated on 56.5kg on the 2YO list.

Vincent Mangano won three times at Listed level while Captain Fantastic won the Wakefield Challenge Stakes.

Alamosa is now being trained in Melbourne for the spring carnival by Mick Price.

Nom Du Jeu won the Waikato Guineas and was fourth in the NZ Derby before he went to ydney here he won th Randwick classic and finished second in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

C'est la Guerre (Shinko King), now owned by Lloyd Williams, was rated on 60.5kg.
