Wyong Slipper Start For She's Meaner
Story By Chris Scholtz
Monday, 18 February 2008: | | Nash Rawiller | Trainer Gai Waterhouse hsstily rearranged the programs she had mapped out for her Magic Millions two-year-old squad after She's Meaner was a late scratching from Saturday's Widden Stakes at Randwick.
She's Meaner was ruled out after she bruised a heel during light exercise on Saturday morning.
She's Meaner made a stunning debut to win at Randwick on January 26 and is regarded by Waterhouse as one of her top contenders for the $1.5 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on March 23 with her other classy filly Montana Flyer.
The Wyong Slipper (1000m) was not on the agenda for She's Meaner but after missing a start in the Widden Stakes it will now provide the filly with her vital lead-up to the Gold Coast race over 1200m.
Waterhouse said Saturday's setback was “no big deal".
Nash Rawiller rode She's Meaner in her debut win and will need to get his weight down this week if he is to ride the filly at her correct mark of 53.5kg under the set weights conditions of the Wyong Slipper.
“She'll go to Wyong and then on to Queensland for the Magic Millions,” Waterhouse said.
With She's Meaner now a confirmed runner at Wyong, Waterhouse plans to start the career of her unraced Magic Millions entry Amelia's Dream at Canterbury on Saturday.
Amelia's Dream was to debut in the Wyong Slipper after winning a barrier trial at Rosehill last Tuesday.
Montana Flyer will have her next start in the $80,000 Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick on March 1.
